Striking it Big with the Bowling Team

During the month of November, the bowling team assembled and started practices and playing games against other schools. So far this season, the team has had lots of success winning games and playing in the state competition. With the help of their top players Jonathan Kang ‘27, Dohwan Kim ‘25, and Timmy Chen ‘25, the team has been led to numerous victories, while also building bonds and creating lasting memories with each other. The team has shown resilience when defeated and rejoicing when another victory was claimed.

The bowling team’s top player, Sophomore Jonathan Kang, has had a wonderful season, personally. He says, “The highlight of the season for me has been scoring 247 points, getting 6 strikes in a row in one game and tons of spares.” He strives to be the best and he will continue to work hard on his craft so that when next season starts, he will come back better than ever and become team captain when he is a senior.

Senior Dohwan Kim, has also experienced a wonderful final season. Dohwan says, “The highlight of this year’s bowling season would be when the team played against Hawthorne. Even though we could not beat them, we were able to see what our full potential is as a team.” As a captain, Dohwan’s job is to see what each individual player on the team has to offer and help them become even better.

For newcomer Senior Timmy Chen, not only is the team about winning and making progress but about forming relationships and becoming a family. Timmy says, “Even though the team is made up of young members, there is still a lot of talent that is showcased through each individual.” It’s not the winning and the trophies that make the team, it’s the members coming together and being united, no matter the different levels amongst the members. Timmy was able to finish off the season with an average of 158.4 points.

Timmy Chen is not the only new addition to the team. This year, the team has been fortunate to have a new coach step in, lead the team and encourage each of its members. Some might know him as the new gym teacher this year, Mr. Miller. This new teacher not only has experience with sports, but with this sport specifically. Mr. Miller was able to enjoy every practice and game with his team and remember a season filled with amazing highlights. He says, “First was finishing in third place in the Bergen County BIT tournament.” This was an amazing accomplishment for the bowling team. He further says, “Second was making it to the second round of the 2025 NJSIAA Boys Bowling – North Jersey, Section 2, Group 2 State Sectional Tournament in which we lost to Dumont sadly.” It’s not always about the win, it’s about the hard work and heart that each teammate puts into their craft. It is clear that the bowling team had a great season and hopefully next season, the team comes back stronger and wins more titles.

Seeing that two of the members of the team are seniors, the bowling team wishes nothing but the best for them as they venture off into something new and possibly continue what they did this past season.
