Top 5 Moments from the Spring Pep Rally

The Spring Pep Rally at Leonia High School was a day filled with enthusiasm, energy, and school pride. The atmosphere was exciting from the moment students entered the gym until the last event. These pep rallies bring the whole school in support of the upcoming school sports. Here are the top five highlights from this year’s event.

# 5: The Grand Entrance

Matt Wilds throws T-shirts

As students filled the gym, the lights dimmed and the spotlight landed on seniors  Kenny Arias and Matthew Wilds, who made their grand entrance in sleek black suits.  The unexpected surprise left the students shocked. “Did not expect Kenny and Matt to come in with all black suits,” said Renee Kim.  The surprising decision  of clothing was simple yet powerful, with the spotlight creating a dramatic moment as the students went wild.

# 4: The Spring Sports Teams

Once the crowd settled in, the spring sports teams were introduced. One by one, players from baseball, track, tennis, and other spring sports walked across the gym to music that the teams personally selected. Then the captains said a few words to pump up the community for the upcoming season.

#3 Tug of War: Freshmen vs. Seniors

The Freshmen vs. Seniors tug-of-war was a very fun event as it did not take long for the seniors to get the win. They won without much struggle. Still, the crowd was all in, cheering for both sides. Even though the outcome was pretty much expected, it was still an entertaining event.

#2: The Basketball Game

One of the favorite highlights of the rally came during the 3 x3 basketball challenge. A dozen teams competed in a knockout tournament at the end of March, and the championship round was held at the end of the spring pep rally. Seniors Malachi Williams, Daniel Alley, Nicole Anez, and Jaylene Hernandez played on the court and won the game, defeating a talented group of sophomores.

#1 Musical Chairs

Students moved around the chairs while the music played, and one by one, they left. It all came down to Melanie Morris and Matthew Wilds, as the gym watched. Both of them went for the final chair when the music stopped, but Melanie made it first. Melanie is now the two-time champion of Musical chairs, after winning during an earlier pep rally.
