Senior Externship Fridays
On September 27, externships started for seniors at Leonia High School. Externships are a structured learning experience, only for seniors, to channel their inner future selves by going to a worksite every Friday and working alongside people who have experience in the field they wish to go into. When you’re a senior and in any Academy, you are required to have an externship. While it is not a requirement for non-academy students all seniors are allowed to seek and attend an externship on Fridays
It is important that you not only like your externship but that you choose something that you can learn a lot from and take away so much that can go into your future. When talking to someone like senior Emma Vasquez, who is going into the medical field, she says “My externship will help me get comfortable in hospital work as well as being around patients but most importantly how to be selfless.” Externships are definitely a way for you to get comfortable with your desired field.
When trying to find an externship and wanting to do something with business, you can talk to someone like senior Abir Bhattacharya, who not only is performing a business externship but also is in MBLA, the Marketing and Business Academy here at Leonia High School. Abir says “So far I have learned how to work websites, organize inventory spreadsheets, and learned how to create a Tik Tok shop and list products for the TikTok shop. I do hope to succeed with this business in the future, as it is a startup it has a lot of potential to grow.”
Senior Isabella Gregory had a lot to say to underclassmen about the availability of externships, “The advice I would give underclassmen regarding their externship is to make sure that whatever your doing is something you’re interested in because you are stuck with this for the rest of the year and if you don’t like it … you won’t look forward to doing it, which is not the point of this externship. Another thing is to make sure that whatever you choose helps you in the future. Meaning it has something to do with a career path you think you might be interested in and pursuing.”
To any underclassmen, another piece of advice, maybe go on a tour of the place that you’re thinking of before choosing something instantly.
