Winter Activities to Start the New Year
Although winter seems to be the time of the year where you are unable to leave your house because of the snow, there are actually many activities you can do. The season is not over yet, and snow has yet to hit the ground in New Jersey, so there is still plenty of time to do activities that you have done this winter. To help you out this winter and for the many winters ahead, here are the top 5 activities you can do during the snowy season.
Going On A Ski Trip
Rather than going away for the weekend, a week, or even more, going on a day trip is a very fun and new activity for the whole family to enjoy. You can experience the view of the snow, interact with new people, try out a new skill, and even enjoy some hot drinks while you’re there. This way you can experience the snow in a way everyone will enjoy, and it will be a nice memory for all.
Go Ice Skating
There are two ways you can go about this activity- spending money somewhere or taking the cheaper way out and finding a frozen lake. Since most of the people reading this most likely live close to the New York City area, taking a trip to Rockefeller Center is a wonderful choice for when you want to go ice skating this season. While in New York, you are able to see the Christmas tree and even walk around the city after and potentially visit a nice restaurant or other stores. In another case, you can rent some skates and go to a rink nearby, or even a local lake that is frozen over. Although going over to a lake might be more dangerous, it is always a possibility as long as it is done safely.
Go Sledding
Leonia is one of the best towns to go sledding in during the winter months, considering the many large hills that get covered in snow. Sledding by the Leonia Pool is a very common activity for people of all ages in town. Bringing friends and family is always a great choice when you want to go sledding here.
Build a Snowman
This is an exciting activity for kids, teenagers who like to joke around, and adults who want to take a trip down memory lane to experience a fun childhood activity all over again. If you are lucky enough to live in an area with a lot of snow, you can build these cute snow sculptures. If you do not live in an area with snow, you can always make your own in different creative ways too, like using fake snow, paper mache, or even buying a prebuilt snowman from a hardware or craft store.
Knit Something
Since there are many indoor activities to do during the cold weather, one of them could be picking up a new hobby such as knitting. It is an activity that is easy to get good at and winter is the perfect time to practice this fun hobby. You can make scarves, sweaters, blankets, socks, and many more things just by knitting. Sharing these things with your family for the holidays, or even just to show them appreciation could easily brighten up their day.
The winter months hold many activities to do, ranging from outdoor activities like skiing, sledding, and building a snowman, to indoor activities such as knitting and watching movies. Of course, there are other activities to do during the cold winter months, but these are here to get some ideas going. Instead of wasting the time away during the winter wondering what you could possibly do during these months, try finding an activity you have never done before-and one of them could possibly be listed above- because it is never too late to try something new.
