Coachella 2014 Wrap Up

Nearly 90,000 people attended The Coachella Valley Music and Arts festival in Indio, California for the weekends of April 11th to the 13th and April 18th to the 20th.

Coachella had headliners such as OutKast, Muse, and Arcade Fire; People from all over the states, including numerous celebrities, gathered to experience these two weekends. Katy Perry, Jared Leto, Beyonce, Jay-Z, and Vanessa Hudgens were some of the celebrities spotted on the Coachella grounds having a good time and watching performances by over 150 artists. Performers such as Ellie Goulding, HAIM, Skrillex, Lorde, Foster the People, the 1975, and Lana del Rey left crows speechless these two weekends.

The 17-year-old New Zealander, Lorde, that has been taking the world by storm and this year she showed the crowds of Coachella her authenticity and talent. During her debut performance, she opened with her singles “Royals,” and “Team.” However, she shifted the mood of her performance to a more personal one by bringing out songs from her album Pure Heroine. Audiences were completely engaged when she showed off her vibrant alto voice when singing “Ribs.”

Eva Parr, a junior at Rancho Cucamonga High School in California, has gone to Coachella the last two years. She says, “Everyone is so happy, sweet, and carefree. Coachella is like a family.” Her favorite performers this year were Arcade Fire, who during the second weekend pranked their audience. During their performance, two robots similar to Daft Punk were brought out on stage, however, lead singer of Arcade Fire ,Win Butler, introduced them as “Paft Dunk.” According to Vanessa Franko, a blogger for The Press-Enterprise, Butler also talked about his appreciation for the “classicism of Coachella and [added] a jab at electronic artists when he gave a shout out to musicians who still play instruments.”

Her favorite part about Coachella 2014 however were “the surprise guests this year. They were really unexpected and amazing.” Some surprise guests included Snoop Dogg, A$AP Rocky, Gwen Stefani, and Jay-Z.

All in all, Parr states that her experience was “unforgettable”. The laid back atmosphere and guest appearances were some of the key components to the two incredible weekends of Coachella 2014.
